Policy 02

Build media literacy with ASD

Students and families need help sorting what is real online: checking sources, understanding AI-generated media, protecting privacy, spotting manipulation, and knowing when a screen is shaping what they believe.

The mission

Charlie will bring the Anchorage School Board, ASD, libraries, youth programs, and local groups to the same table so media literacy gets treated like a basic skill, not an extra.

Partner with the School Board

Set regular check-ins between Assembly members and the School Board on AI, misinformation, online safety, and what students need next.

Prepare for AI media

Help students and families understand deepfakes, AI-written content, algorithmic feeds, and the difference between useful tools and misleading information.

Reach parents and elders

Use libraries, community councils, and school partners for workshops on privacy, digital footprints, scams, online safety, and practical ways to support young people.

Include every community

Make sure materials work for Anchorage families, including multilingual households and neighborhoods that are too often left out.
